Dick Jaspers in his match against his compatriot Jean Paul de Bruijn.

SUWON - He needed only one set before he had found his rhythm: Dick Jaspers had a silly start on the orange party, but then he raced in his own impressive style over Jean Paul de Bruijn. The match between the two Dutchmen in the opening round of this World Cup weekend, finished with the winner everyone had expected. Jaspers clinched victory after a slow start 3-1 (7-15, 15-5, 15-4, 15-6 / 1529-0909).

They are lifelong friends, know each other from their early years, admire each others' technology, but at the billiard Jaspers usually shows to have more international routine, more charisma and class than De Bruijn. The champion can translate his worldclass most of the time in the score when he faces his compatriot. He did it again in the morning hours in the Suwon Youth Culture Center. Jaspers reigned, De Bruijn could only sit down and watch, mainly in the three last sets of the match.

Martin Horn will be the next opponent for Dick Jaspers, because the German was not surprised in his first match. He defeated Haeng Jik Kim 3-1, losing only the second set and could look back on a very acceptable average: 1.800.

The surprises came from the other tables, however it's pretty normal these days that Jérémy Bury gradually develops himself as an angstgegner for Marco Zanetti. The younger of the two Agipi-players dominated the game from the start, won the third set 15-1 (walking to 2-1 in sets) and then blowed away his opponent.

Very surprising was the win of the Turkish champion Adnan Yüksel against Chung-Won Choi. The Korean was the great winner of the Agipi Masters this year, but wasn't quite well at the World championship in Lima. This morning, he was coolly beaten by surprise after he had won the first set 15-5. Thereafter he swallowed a bitter pill, despite an average of 1,400.
