Belgians have unlucky, but also very bad start

SUWON - It looked out so well for Jean Paul de Bruijn and Eddy Leppens in the group in which they play together with the Korean Hyun Min Seo. The Dutchman defeated his opponent 2-1 in the early hours, after a backlog of 11-2 in the deciding set.

But one tour later the Korean took a big revenge. He swepped Eddy Leppens from the table 15-5 and 15-0, finished the second set in two innings and so fought back in the tournament. The decision will depend of the match that De Bruijn and Leppens play against each other.

For Leppens it was a very unfortunate start of the tournament. He had so little chance, had some occasional unfortunate, hardly could come off his chair and saw a Korean who was aggrieved after losing his match against Jean Paul de Bruijn.

The Belgians didn't start so well at all, as it was seen later on, because Roland Forthomme lost his first game 2-1 against Jae Guen Kim (12-15, 15-8, 15-10). The Belgian has just a minimal chance of survival, he has to win 2-0 against Seung Jin Lee.

Anh Vu Duong, the Vietnamese with a big name in the circuit, also started with a hopeless defeat by Seong-Gwan Kim. The best ranked Korean today is Jung Han Heo. He showed the reason for his reputation against Ho Suk Jung, whom he beat 15-10 and 15-5 (average 2.307).

The two Turkish confrontations ended with victories of Adnan Yüksel and Murat Naci Coklu. Coklu beat Savas Bulut 2-1 (1.629), Yüksel was less impressive against Ahmet Alp (2-1, 1.156).

The Korean Hyung Kon Kim, yesterday the big star of the third qualification day, didn't seem to be so refreshed against Joel Switala in the morning hours. He won the first set 15-6 but lost 15-10 in the second in 18 innings. The revenge of the Korean was bitter and the highlight of the first day session. In the deciding set  he won 15-0 in two innings with a run of thirteen.

Pierre Soumagne had a very bad feeling after his opening game against Jin Pyo Hong. The Korean dominated, Soumagne lost 2-0 and was left behind with a very moderate average of 0.666.

Haeng Jik Kim, the reigning junior world champion, found his rhythm against Chi Tanh Tran after a 1-1 tie in sets. He won the game and will meet later on Kouji Funaki as his opponent.
