MOSCHATO - In a suburb of Athens the first international Acropolis open has been started. Many Greek three cushion players met each other in the preliminaries, now the 64 best players kicked off in the main event, which is played in a double knockout system.
The Greeks perform in the five days event with top players as Filippos Kasidokostas, Nikos Polychronopoulos and Kostas Papakonstantinou, from abroad ten players have traveled to the Greek capital, including the Turks Murat Tüzül, Can Capak and Mehmet Goren, the Swede Michael Nilsson, Spaniard Jose Maria Mas and the Macedonian Danilo Brajovic.
The double knock-out system means that the players in the main tournament still have a chance to reach the final after one loss. They are racked to the back side of the pyramid and still can qualify for the final.
Nikos Polychronopoulos is in this system not outplayed after his loss on the first day. The Turk Murat Tüzül defeated him in his first game 40-36 in 37 innings, but then lost his next match against Filippos Kasidokostas 40-18 in 18 innings.
The Spaniard Jose Maria Mas had a promising start with a victory over Argiros Chris (40-23 in 23).
The finals of the tournament are on Sunday 18 November. The matches will be broadcasted on the Trispodes website: www.livestream.com/trispodes.
