BOTTROP - The ladies three-cushion world champion's life suddenly looks really different. Therese Klompenhouwer just returned from her honeymoon with Eveline van der Meer, is completely settled in a new house in Blaricum, Holland, where the family of four ladies resides almost permanently. Only the eldest of two daughters (16 and 18) no longer lives and sleeps at home all the time. ''I really enjoy the life I have now, together with Eveline and the girls.''
She returned from a Greek island shortly before the Grand Prix in Bottrop after a wonderful holiday. And just back home, Therese is quite busy now. Doing a bit of housework, cooking, cleaning. ’’Ha ha, having so many girls in the house is of course very different from what I was used to. But I'm often at home during the day. And Eveline is working, but also does a lot of housework. It's a good ratio and balance. Anyway, we are very happy in our new house.''
The eight-day honeymoon on Santorini, a fantastic island, without having seen a billiard cue, was not the ideal preparation for the Grand Prix, but Therese started with a solid win and will see how things go. ''It can turn out well, but also wrong that I haven't practiced for a long time.'' The women's field for the Grand Prix consists of the familiar names: Charlotte Sörensen, Karina Jetten, Jaimie Buelens, Güzin Mujde Karakasli, Monique van Exter, Gülsen Degener, Danielle le Bruyn. There are 27 in total of whom at most five, six are contenders for a podium finish.
The best so far, after one day of preliminary rounds in the seven groups was no surprise. Therese Klompenhouwer made the 25 points in 28 innings, Charlotte Sörensen used only two innings more (30). Other good winners: Karina Jetten in 34 (against Degener) and 38, Monique van Exter in 38 and Sylvia Eckel in 39. Ten of 17 games until the final round on Friday evening did not reach 25 points and were stopped after 50 innings.
Tomorrow's schedule starts with Charlotte Sörensen against Ana Juarez, Therese Klompenhouwer against Monika Steinberger, Gülsen Degener against Steffi Träm and Jaimie Buelens against Güzin Mujde Karakasli, among others.
On Sunday, the quarter-finals are at 9.30am, the semi-finals at 12.30pm and the final at 4pm.
The matches can be followed live on Kozoom.
