AN EXTRAVAGANZA OF top flight pool is set to get underway tomorrow (Tuesday) with a run of eight tournaments stretching out over 13 days. Taking place at the Gandia Palace Hotel on the coast of eastern Spain, it is the PREDATOR PRO BILLIARD SERIES’ only stop in Europe this year, following on from successful events in the USA and South East Asia.
Sticking to their popular schedule of men’s and women’s opens as well as the mixed doubles open, the PBS billiards bonanza is bolstered by the WPA Junior World Championships, and topped off by open and women’s Euro Tour events.
The action gets on track with the Little Monster Women’s International Open. 40 players representing 22 countries compete and the tournament plays in a double-elimination format down to the final 16.
The men’s event has a field of 87 and features double elimination and then straight knock-out from the last 32 onwards. There are 32 pairs competing in the Mixed Doubles tournament and it plays double elimination down to the quarter-final stages.
Starting on Friday are the three Predator WPA World Junior Championships. Contested in boys U17 and U19 as well as girls divisions, each tournament features 24 players – the very best juniors from Europe, Asia, the Americas and Oceania.
Commented Vincent Rochefort, Director of Events at the Predator Pro Billiard Series, “We’re delighted to be returning to Europe as the Pro Billiard Series puts on another clutch of events showcasing some of the biggest pool talents in the world. After such a brilliant run of tournaments in Asia, it’s an exciting prospect to bring our unique flavour of pool to Spain for the first time.
“Our status as producers of the best in World Championship billiards can only be enhanced as we once again look forward to staging the WPA World Juniors and giving the brightest emerging young players their greatest platform as they compete for the biggest titles of their fledgling careers.
“In addition, our stay in Spain concludes with the two Predator Euro Tour events, the final stops on the six-event tour. Next year, the Predator Pro Billiard Series will be staging an increasing number of events in Europe and the tournaments in Gandia will be the perfect start to another 12 months of successes.”
