HELSINGOR - For the 33rd time in his long career, 63-year-old Torbjörn Blomdahl became Sweden's three-cushion champion this weekend. In the championship final, Blomdahl defeated his eternal rival Michael Nilsson with whom he won so many world titles with the Swedish national team in Viersen. Thanks to his ranking points, Blomdahl remains number 9 in the UMB player rankings. The podium at the Swedish championship was further occupied by Nalle Olsson and the rather unknown Alf Alvberger.
The final between Blomdahl and Nilsson ended in a 40-24 score for Blomdahl. Both players had taken the top spot in two groups of eight players with an unbeaten series of seven wins. In those, Blomdahl played 1.618 on average, Nilsson 1.783. In the semi-finals, Blomdahl won against Alvberger 40-14, Nilsson beat Olsson 40-24. Blomdahl got through the quarter-finals by winning against Johansen 40-11, Nilsson won against Orellana 40-23.
