SEOUL – Korean billiards player Ga-young Kim is currently on a record hunt at the PBA women's finals. The final tournament, dubbed the PBA World championship by the Koreans, will feature multiple winner Ga-young Kim, a former pool player, in the quarter finals. Ga-young Kim achieved her 400th set victory in her final match. The Korean has appeared in all five previous World championship finals to date, winning the title three times.
Ga-young Kim is once again the overwhelming favorite at this final event after Sruong Pheavy, Orie Hida, Shin-young Lee, Mi-rae Lee, Min-a Kim, and Min-ju Baek, among others, were eliminated.
Among the favorites now are Jung-su Lim and Se-yeon Kim, who are former tournament winners and will now play against each other for a place in the top four semifinals. Cambodian Sruong Pheavy was eliminated from the tournament after two losses in the top 16.
In the previous round, Ga-young Kim defeated Su-bin Chung, a rising star, 3-1, averaging 1.387 and a run of 7. A sixth performance in the finals awaits the player who won the last two final tournaments and is a three-times winner.
Yu-ra Cha also delivered a strong performance, defeating Min-young Kim 3-0, averaging 3.000 and highest runs of 7, 8, and 8. She will now face Ga-young Kim.
The renowned Japanese player Ayako Sakai, a two-time winner of the LPBA tournaments, played her final match in the Korean tour and retired.
The PBA uses the 15-point system for the men’s tournament, and the 11-point system for the women's tournament.
