SEOUL – The European top players are dominating the final stage at the PBA World championship in Korea. Spaniards Dani Sánchez, David Martinez and Juan David Zapata are vying for the title and bonus of €120,000. Dani Sánchez meets Robinson Morales today for a top-8 finish. Murat Naci Coklu and Lütfi Cenet are also still in contention for the top prize.
The tournament, which started with the top 32 players from the regular tournaments, has since lost quite a few Koreans. Jae-ho Cho, former winner, Sung-won Choi, Jun-tae Kim, Jong Won Kim, and Choong Bok Lee have all been eliminated.
The draw has now narrowed down to the top 16, with three Spaniards and three Vietnamese players remaining so far. Juan David Zapata already defeated Phuong Linh Nguyen 3-0, and Dinh Nai Ngo defeated Eddy Leppens 3-0. Im Ggwon Kim defeated Minh Cam Ma 3-1. Jae Guen Kim defeated Nam Soo Kim 3-1. Dani Sánchez eliminated Semih Sayginer in the round of 32.
