GAZA-SAINT-BREVIN-LES-PINS - The sports director of the world federation UMB has announced the list of players for the one cushion World championship, which is played in the French Gaza-Saint-Brevin-les-Pins from 2 until 5 October. The players list was initially made with nine places for the CEB (European federation), three for the CPB (Pan-American), two for ACBC (Asia) and two wild cards for the UMB and the organizing French federation.
The major contenders for the title are Frédéric Caudron and Jean Paul de Bruijn, defending champion Wolfgang Zenkner and Torbjörn Blomdahl is one of the participants. The three places for the Pan-American confederation have been returned so that the CEB has three extra places. On the list are three French players now, two Belgian, two German players and one from the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Spain, Austria and Greece.
The Asian contingent is represented by a Vietnamese and a Japanese player. The wildcard was awarded to Wolfgang Zenkner, the defending champion and Bernard Villiers by the French organization.
