Supercup gala has been cancelled definitely

GENT - The gala on which Dick Jaspers and Torbjörn Blomdahl would play for the Super Cup and the Player of the Year would have been chosen, is cancelled definitely. The UMB was the last week in negotiations with a candidate organizer, who wanted to organize the event in Turnhout.

Today the UMB send the final message that the Supercup gala, which would be held on Saturday, February 4, is removed from the calendar.

The organization of the gala was for ten years in the hands of Ludo Dielis, who had built up a great event, that was held most of the time in the Hilton Hotel in Antwerp. The Belgian former world champion has retired after ten years, the license was available to a new organization.

The gala for the Supercup was traditionally played between the world champion and the World Cup holder, for this year between Dick Jaspers and Torbjörn Blomdahl. Also, the Player of the Year would have been chosen from five candidates.

Players who excelled in the Supercup and the Player of the Year election were Dick Jaspers, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Frédéric Caudron, Marco Zanetti, Eddy Merckx, Dani Sánchez, Ryuuji Umeda and Filipos Kasidokostas.
