NEW YORK – Colombian player Alexander Salazar won the Fall Classic tournament at the Carom Cafe in New York. He finished the final rankings ahead of Harry Zamora, Jose Juan Garcia, Hugo Patiño and Huberney Cataño. The tournament was played without Europeans, but with a strong South American field.
The preliminary rounds were played with four groups of eight players, with Jose Juan Garcia, Alexander Salazar, Harry Zamora, and Huberney Cataño emerging as the winners. Cataño averaged 1.892, Garcia 1.598, Salazar 1.522, and Zamora 1.296. The runners-up were Carlos Villegas, Javier Teran, Hugo Patiño, and Pedro Piedrabuena. The highest run was made by David Ramirez with 13.
In the final, Alexander Salazar defeated Harry Zamora, the tournament's surprise, 40-33 in 21 innings. In the semifinals, Salazar was the better of Garcia 40-35 in 17 matches, while Zamora defeated Patiño 40-19 in 17 matches. Zamora excelled with the highest run of the tournament: 16. Huberney Cataño played the best match with 35 in 9 matches.
