LISBON – The CBA Rebuçados team from Lisbon has won the Portuguese team championship. This is the first title for this team, which played a draw against Leça FC in the final. The CBA team, with Marcos Morales and Adrian Legazpi as foreign players, won the title caroms. Fernando Silva played a major role in winning the title with his comfortable victory over good old Paulo Andrade, 40-11 in 25 innings.
The two top favorites, FC Porto (with Jaspers) and Leça FC (with Merckx) missed out on the title. CBA Rebuçados defeated the team from A Portugesa 6-2 in the semi-finals. Leça FC beat FC Porto after Dick Jaspers and Eddy Merckx drew (40-40 in 21) and Jef Philipoom beat Rui Manuel Costa 40-23 in 36 innings.
In the final, José Escudeiro beat Alexandre Vitorino and Eddy Merckx defeated young Spaniard Marcos Morales 40-22 in 17. Fernando Silva and Adrian Legazpi beat Paulo Andrade and Jef Philipoom.
For CBA Rebuçados Dr. Bayard, it was their first title, won in the final against Leça FC, which was last year's champions.
