The clamorous laugh of Markus Dömer sounds through the little room outside the arena of Agipi, inside he was in the days before especially concentrated on what his opponents showed at the billiard table. The 42-year-old German, born in Dortmund, doesn't get enough of the spectacle in the final round of the European Cup. ,,I'm only a small amateur among the best players in the world'', says Dömer, who is German champion one cushion and with the Horster Eck team champion of Germany.
His appearance in the hall of Agipi has lasted only two days. Dömer lost his first match against Jérémy Bury with only 0.632 average and the second against Paolo Andrade even with 0.592. The highest run was four, so he belonged to the lesser gods in this final.
,,I can't do better'', he said. ,,I play billiards at most five, six hours in a week, I really love the game but I'm in the insurance business and can certainly not expect that I can duel with this world class players. It is especially important for us to be here, to participate in this finals is a fantastic experience.''
Horster Eck was classified in Schilitigheim in a group with two top teams: Agipi, the six times European Cup holder and FC Porto with Dani Sánchez and Semih Sayginer. JIK Haeng Kim, main player for Horster Eck, defeated in the first session by surprise the Spanish world champion Sanchez.
,,In the German league we play with Torbjörn Blomdahl and Martin Horn'' said Markus Dömer. ,,Then we have a much stronger team of course and we would be able to compete with the best teams in that composition. But as it is in the European Cup: those boys are playing internationally for other teams.''
Markus Dömer has not left the Agipi arena after the shutdown. He enjoys the tournament for two more days. ,,I have fulfilled an important promise in any case. I kissed my wife and daughter in the camera, which will remain a cherished memory. Of course: if my match has been broadcasted and will be replayed on Kozoom, haha.''
