Therese Klompenhouwer finally gets her world championship.

HURGHADA - Two days of watching the matches, a drink in the bar with some friends, a walk to the pool and to the beach and in the evening a short visit to the disco in the hotel. Furthermore, Therese Klompenhouwer is waiting for the day that she can start in the World Cup in Hurgada. That will be today, on the third day of the tournament, in a group with the thirteen year old Korean Myung Woo Cho and the Turk Koray Kirman, in which the Korean revelation won his first match against Kirman 15-14 and 15-14.

The most exciting news the European ladies champion Klompenhouwer received yesterday evening, when Jean Claude Dupont, president of the UMB (world federation, met her and asked what she would think about a world championship next year for women, in Japan in the week before Christmas .

She didn't have to think about, of course: ,,It does not matter for me, where and when it will be played, we are already very happy that finally there will be a world championship. We have been waiting very long.''

,,The Japan federation had proposed another date, but we couldn't agree with it on the international calendar,'' Dupont said. ,,Then we asked if they can organize from 21 to 23 December next year, but first we wanted to know if the major players would agree.''

Therese brought out a quick toast (,,I'm so happy with this news'') and disappeared into the hotel. Today she starts in the World Cup in Hurghada with matches against Myung Woo Cho and Koray Kirman.

The first surprise of the third day was the loss of Haeng Jik Kim, who was beaten 2-1 by his country man In Won Kang, despite a run of ten, but with a moderate average: 1.130. That wasn't enough to threaten his opponent, who came to the arrival with 1.708 average and scores of 11-15, 15-3, 15-8.

The German Ronny Lindemann started with a loss against Clauw Foge, but then defeated Jean Reverchon. Dave Christiani had a bad start too with a 2-0 loss against Young Chull Kim. The Dutchman repared with a win against Ihab El Messery, but is close to elimination.

Frans van Kuyk, Peter de Backer and Wesley Jaeger are on their way to next round. They won their first matches, but still need another win.
