ATHENS - Filippos Kasidokostas has won the International Open IBT Hellas in Athens. The former European champion showed his power with a great endrush. The Greek number one defeated in the final Dani Sánchez 40-26 in sixteen innings (2.500/1.625).
The tournament, with thirty Greek players, three Turks and Spaniard Dani Sánchez in the end phase, was played in the billiard temple where the World championships for juniors and women will be organized.
Filippos Kasidokostas dominated the final rounds: he defeated Dimitrios Gevezous in the 16th final in a great match, in 14 innings, beat Kostas Kikkoris in the semifinals with a big margin, 40-16 in 14 (2.857) and in the quarterfinals Kostas Bartsokis 40-39 in 29.
With his performance Kasidokostas showed his great form in his own country. His next mission is the European Cup with the Andernos team from 6 until 9 June in Schiltigheim. There he can meet players like Frédéric Caudron, Tayfun Tasdemir, Jean van Erp, Nikos Polychronopoulos and Torbjörn Blomdahl as captains of their teams.
Dani Sánchez came to the final in Athens by victories in the quarterfinals over Dionisos Tsokantas (40-32 in 16) and in the semifinal against Nikos Polychronopoulos (40-38 in 28).
Murat Tüzül, Nick Tremolis, Kostas Bartsokas and Dionisios Tsokantas were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Three other well-known players, Byrol Uymaz, Chatzipavlis and Kostas Papakonstantinou, could not survive the preselection.
