Indian billiards legend Geet Sethi is set to make his much-anticipated return to the international green baize, competing in the 2026 English Open and World Billiards Championship, commencing on 17 October 2026 at Landywood Snooker Club in Great Wyrley, near Walsall, England.
A nine-time world champion across cue sports disciplines, Sethi's return marks a significant moment for Indian billiards, bringing one of the sport's most celebrated names back to the international stage after more than a decade away from the World Billiards Championship.
Sethi has won eight World Billiards titles, including five in the professional category and three at the IBSF World Billiards Championship. He was also part of the Indian team that won the IBSF World Team Snooker Championship in 2006 in San Jose, USA, alongside Devendra Joshi and BVS Murthy.
His last appearance at the World Billiards Championship came in 2013, when he reached the quarter-final stage. Following that campaign, Sethi stepped away from international billiards to focus on other professional commitments. However, he continued to remain connected with the sport through domestic invitation tournaments and regular practice sessions.
His most recent international appearance in cue sports came at the 2019 World Masters Team Snooker Championship in Mandalay, Myanmar, where he partnered Cherag Ramakrishnan to secure a bronze medal for India.
Sethi's participation in the upcoming championships will reunite him with the international billiards fraternity and add further excitement to the Indian contingent's campaign in England.
Strong Indian Contingent in England
Alongside Sethi, several of India's leading cueists will compete in the championships, including Pankaj Advani, Dhruv Sitwala, Rupesh Shah, Devendra Joshi, Dhvaj Haria, Rishabh Thakkar, Shruthi Lakshminarayanan and Sourav Kothari. Kothari will participate exclusively in the World Billiards Championship.
With a strong Indian lineup and the return of one of the country's most iconic billiards champions, the championships promise to be an exciting occasion for Indian cue sports fans.
