KIELCE - Billiard players in four different disciplines are up to play the WCBS championship in Poland from 25 to 28 July. Four European players have been selected for three cushion: two in men's, two in women's. The number one ranked players from the UMB ranking, Dutchmen Dick Jaspers and Therese Klompenhouwer, will not play for Europe. The European championship is leading. The European teams will meet two Asian teams, one American and one team from Africa and the Rest of the World. The four disciplines are 10-Ball pool billiards, snooker and heyball. For Europe billiards, an A-team and a B-team will compete. The winners are rewarded by 44,000 US dollars, numbers two 34,000, numbers three 20,000. The total prize amount is US$140,000.
For Europe 1, in three cushion Torbjörn Blomdahl (Sweden) and Jaimie Buelens (Belgium) will play, in heyball Dennis Laszkowski (Germany) and Nina Torvund (Norway), in pool Denis Grabe (Estonia) and Sara Rocha (Portugal) and in snooker Brendan O'Donoghue (Ireland) and Dalia Alska (Poland).
For Europe 2, in three cushion Ruben Legazpi (Spain), Karina Jetten (Netherlands) play, in heyball Oliver Szolnoki (Hungary) and Ana Gradisnik (Slovenia), in pool Daniel Maciol (Poland) and Bojana Sarak (Serbia) and in snooker Michael Georgiou (Cyprus) and Wendy Jans (Belgium).
Known participants from the other continents include in three cushion for Asia the world champion, Vietnamese Phuong Vinh Bao, Japanese Ryuji Umeda, Mexican Javier Vera and Egyptian Sameh Sidhom. For the women, Yuko Nishimoto, Johanna Sandoval and Güzin Mujde Karakasli.
A trio of referees have been invited for the Netherlands and Belgium in three cushion.
