SHARM EL SHEIKH - Three players from the world's top ten rankings have been eliminated from the main prizes before the knock-outs in the Sharm El Sheikh World Cup. Vietnamese Quyet Chien Tran, Egyptian Sameh Sidhom (in his own country) and former world champion Tayfun Tasdemir do not return to the World Cup which continues on Friday with 16 players remaining from the 32 in the first round of the main draw. The last World Cup this year does enter the final two days with very surprising finalists. The overview of the 8 groups on Thursday:
Group A:
- What a nice start for Marco Zanetti, who explodes in his first match against Ahmet Alp after a cautious start (7-5 in 7) with 5, 13, 10 and 4 in six innings and then leads 39-12 in 13. The tone is set for the group, in which Daniel Morales establishes his candidacy on the other table by winning over Roland Forthomme 40-28 in 26. The odds turn when Zanetti is beaten by Colombia's Daniel Morales in his second match by a minimal margin. In the closing stages of the match, Zanetti has a clash with the French referee and the ending takes on a grim character. Morales wins the match 40-39 in 25 innings. Ahmet Alp recovers beautifully from the start against Zanetti (losing in 14 innings) and wins his second against Forthomme himself also in 14 innings (40-22). It turns into a thrilling ending with Roland Forthomme getting on match point shortly before the finish against Zanetti with a run of 12 and Zanetti going to a superb finish with 6 (40-39 in 15).
The final score in Group A:
Daniel Morales 6-1,363-8

It is hardly a tradition in the last tournaments, but Dick Jaspers does not have a great start and lets himself be trounced by Thanh Luc Tran, one of the lesser-known Vietnamese. The Dutch champion misses remarkably often and even falls behind 36-24 for a final score of 40-31 in 30. It will undoubtedly be exciting in this group, as Omer Karakurt beats Jung Han Heo 40-35 in 31. Dick Jaspers is tormented after his loss and plays a brilliant match against Jung Han Heo, the other loser of the first session. The Dutchman shines especially in the final stage with 10, 2 and 7 to win 40-22 in 10, the best match so far. Tanh Luc Tran remains unbeaten by winning against Omer Karakurt 40-37 in 36 innings. The Vietnamese is already definitely qualified, Jaspers has yet to win against Karakurt. The Dutchman does so thanks to a run of 13 and a 40-17 win in 15. The fireworks come from Tolgahan Kiraz at the start. The Turk, playing against the stuntman of the preliminary rounds, Muammer Rahmet, goes to a good win with runs of 15 and 12: 40-26 in 15.
