CAÏRO - In the multifunctional stadium in Cairo, the first ranking tournament was played for the Egyptian championship. Riad Nady was the winner in the final against the only 21-year old student Kyrollos Girgis from Alexandia. The final ended in 45-25, 28 innings. The championship is spread over four ranking events.
Sameh Sidhom, the national champion, missed this first tournament after a positiv COVID test. Riad Nady is the traditional number two in his country. The Egyptian veteran, who at the last World Championships eliminated Semih Sayginer in the qualifications and then lost to Tayfun Tasdemir, finished third last year. As a result, Sameh Sidhom will play for Egypt with Youssef Ossama at the World Cup for countries in Viersen. Riad Nady is the reserve player.
