NEW YORK - The Open Jennifer Shim tournament in New York, in memory of one of the famous American three-cushion players, is starting off today (Saturday), with a record of femaile players. Jennifer Shim was killed last year under tragic circumstances, shot by her partner. The players who open the three-day tournament are with eighteen, among others from Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, South and North America and Mexico.

They are divided into two groups of nine and to play a full competition. To finish it off, the four top-seeded players of each group play a knockout final round. The tournament starts today in the Carom Café in Flushing, the final rounds are on Sunday and Monday. As of Monday, more than a hundred men come to the areana for the Open Verhoeven including four of the five players from the top of the world rankings.

Therese Klompenhouwer is the world champion, European champion and title defender in New York. The Dutch arrived on Friday in the Carom Cafe, the Japanese women two days before.

The world champion shows up in in the group matches among others with Orie Hida and her mother Kazumi Hida, Helga Mitterböck and Ruth Segura. In the other group Karina Jetten, Naimika Hayashi, Ester Park, Mercedes Gonzalez, Sylvia Eckel and the wife of Frédéric Caudron, Jessica.

Torbjörn Blomdahl, Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx, Frédéric Caudron, Marco Zanetti and Raymond Ceulemans are seeded for the men’s tournament. In the groups for the preliminaries are many famous players like Pedro Piedrabuena, Tayfun Tasdemir, Roland Forthomme, Semih Sayginer, Peter Ceulemans, Murat Naci Coklu, Mazin Shooni, Adnan Yüksel and Sameh Sidhom.

The local time in New York is six hours earlier than for example in Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. Follow the time table on Kozoom for the broadcast times. The broadcast on Kozoom is for free during the women’s tournament, the men’s tournament is for Premium Pass members.

The first matches on Saturday morning are at 10.00 New York time, 16.00 in Paris.
