KANGWON - Young Korean Myung Woo Cho captured the Asian three-cushion title today after a win against Vietnamese Luc Thanh Tran. The new champion dethroned Vietnamese Quyet Chien Tran, who therefore lost a few places in the world rankings. Myung Woo Cho, who was second last year, takes over his position in 10th place.The podium in the Korean city of Kangwon was completed by Vietnamese new top player Vinh Phuong Bao and Chiem Hong Thai.
Myung Woo Cho played an excellent tournament. In the final he beat Luc Thanh Tran 50-20 in 16 innings (3.125 on average), in the semi-final he was the better of Chiem Hong Thai 50-20 in 26 (1.923). Thanh Luc Tran won the other semi-final against Bao 50-45 in 23 (2.174/1.957). Defending champion Quyet Chien Tran was eliminated in the quarter finals by Thanh Luc Tran 50-41 in 42.
The championship was played with 32 players, including Haeng Jik Kim, Jung Han Heo, Jun Tae Kim, Ryuuji Umeda, Duc Anh Chien Nguyen, Sung Won Choi and Choong Bok Lee. It was the 11th time the Asian championship was played.
