VLAARDINGEN - Glenn Hofmann has missed the qualification for the next round in the Grand Prix in Vlaardingen despite a top match against Jean van Erp. The elimination of the young player was one of the surprising results on the first day of the tournament. Hofman lost his first match against Frans van Schaik, repared in his match with Jean van Erp (50-36 in 21 innings), but finished third in his group.
The two finalists of the first tournament in Amsterdam, Martien van de Spoel and Dave Christiani, also didn't survive the first selection of the tournament. The winners of the four groups were Dick Jaspers, Hermann Slikker, Frans van Schaik and Ad Koorevaar.
Jaspers won his two matches with ease and finished with an average of 2.631. Jan Arnouts ended up as second in this group with 1.515.
Frans van Schaik was the surprising winner in Group C, where Jean Van Erp was second with two match points and an average of 1.653 and Glenn Hofman was eliminated with 1.465.
Herman Slikker remained unbeaten in Group E, in which Dave Christiani only finished fourth. Ad Koorevaar had a strong start (1.923 average) and qualified easily, because he had a bye in the second round. Jeffrey Jorissen was second with three match points in this group.
