ROSMALEN – Gert-Jan Veldhuizen (31) from Wageningen has won the Dutch final in one cushion in a final match against Raymund Swertz. He won the match 120-8 in 3 innings with runs of 79, 35 and 6. For Veldhuizen, it was his first national senior title, after being European junior champion twice in 2011 and 2012.
The Dutch championship in one cushion was played at De Hazelaar in Rosmalen. The preliminary rounds were played with 25 players, including top Dutch players like Raymund Swertz, Michel van Silfhout, Jos Bongers, Gert-Jan Veldhuizen, Micha van Bochem and Martijn Egbers.
Gert-Jan Veldhuizen and Jos Bongers played an exciting quarter-final, which ended in 120-120 after 25 innings. Veldhuizen equalised by 27. The shootout to 20 points was a thriller. Veldhuizen finished in 4 innings, Bongers seemed on his way to another shootout, but missed at 19.
Gert-Jan Veldhuizen won the semi-final against Eric Dericks 120-95 in 11, Raymund Swertz beat George Kenter 120-30 in 8.
