FC Porto's super race crowned with glory

LISBON/PORTO - The FC Porto top team is the glorious winner of the Portuguese championship with ten wins in ten matches. Dani Sánchez and Torbjörn Blomdahl remained unbeaten in ten rounds, Joao Ferreira and Manuel Rui Costa both lost only one match. The team average was over 1.600, Dani Sánchez was the best individual player with 2.000. The number two in the 'final six' was FC Leca, that played with Jef Philipoom, Kostas Kokkoris and Jean van Erp ad foreign players.

Torbjörn Blomdahl played the best match of the tournament with a victory over Américo Rui in twelve innings. Dani Sánchez won halfway the tournament, that lasted twelve days, in a great style against Kostas Kokkoris, Alvaro Cruz and again Kokkoris in 15, 14 and 13 innings. For the winning team, Blomdahl scored 1.666 average, Joao Ferreira 1.495 and Manuel Rui Costa 1.314.

FC Porto already secured its victory a few laps before the end. FC Leca was the main pursuer, but the team in which Philipoom, Kokkoris and Van Erp changed positions as foreigners, suffered three defeats and played one draw. The other teams, Sporting CP, Benfica, Leixoes and CBA Rebucadas competed for the other places in the final standings.

FC Porto defeated in the double competition successively CBA Rebucados Dr. Bayard (3-1), Benfica (4-0), Sporting CP (4-0), FC Leca (4-0) Leixoes SC (4-0), FC Leca (3-1), Leixoes (4- 0) Rebucados (4-0), Benfica (4-0) and Sporting CP (4-0).

Juan David Zapata (Benfica) shone in the tournament in a match against Luis Santos which he won in fifteen innings with a run of eighteen.
