ENVIGADO - In an exhilarating evening of billiards, the third edition of 'Billar al Parque' culminated in a city close to Medellín, once again showcasing the passion and skill of Colombia's stars. Since its start in 2021, the initiative to bring billiard tables to Envigado's city park has captivated fans: this final, with Huberney Cataño winning, was no exception. The final was a clash of titans with Huberney Cataño, the current national champion, showing his class by beating Luis Martinez, the current Pan-American champion, by a score 3-1. The sets in the final told the story of the clash: 10-15 in 9, 15-6 in 7, 15-6 in 7, and finally 15-9 in 5 with an impressive series of 9 to end the match.
The semi-finals also produced two enthralling matches. Luis Martinez triumphed over Cesar Garzon by a score of 2-1 with scores 11-15 in 19, 15-5 in 8 and 15-2 in 14. In the other semi-final, Jose Juan Garcia fought valiantly against the later champion Cataño, but eventually fell to his opponent's mastery. Cataño won 3-1 and despite Jose Juan's efforts, Cataño showed his historic dominance. He ended the series with scores of 15-9, 4-15 and 15-14.
The winner shone in this third edition with an overall average 1.341. His performance delivered him a top prize of 28 million Colombian pesos, equivalent to about 6800 US dollars. Luis Martinez, no less impressive, recorded an average of 1,198, while Jose Juan secured third place with an average of 1,500. Cesar Garzon captured fourth place with an average of 1,137.
In terms of outstanding scores, Josue Torres took the honors for the highest series of the tournament with 12. Arley Galeano, on the other hand, left his mark with the best overall average of 1.543. The best individual match was achieved by Jose Juan Garcia with 3.333.
The total participation of 80 players in the event underlines the continued growth of billiards in the community. Local players also made their presence felt, with Arley Castrillon and Alexander Salazar taking sixth and seventh place respectively with averages of 1,156 and 1,251.
