BLANKENBERGE - 17-year-old Belgian Toon Bollansee is one of the favorites to capture the Belgian junior title three cushion this week. At the Multi's in Blankenberge on Sunday, the young player won two matches on the opening day. He leads the competition together with Nino Coeckelbergs.
The Multi's kicked off with matches for 5-pins players, juniors and ladies. Two of the ladies' top favorites already met on Sunday: Danielle Le Bruyn was the better of Jaimie Buelens 27-18 in 32 innings. The battle is still completely open, as Le Bruyn lost earlier to Karolien Matthys 25-19 in 50 innings. And in turn, Matthys lost later Sunday to Marie-Rose Rouffa with 21-18 in 50. The four ladies all have two match points after two games.
In 5-pins, Peter Debaes, one of the title contenders, started with a win over Gianluca Memmi and Miguel-Angel Bustos with a win over Ismaele Trentino. Those two winners faced each other in the next session. Bustos won 2-1 over Debaes.
Toon Bollansee leads the junior under-25 rankings with 4 match points and 0.722 ahead of Nino Coeckelbergs with 4 points and 0.600. The number five and last after two games, Anthony Greffe, made the highest run of the field with 9.
Patrick Niessen started his mission in the classics on Monday morning with a win in 47/2 over Johan Devos 250-10 in 3 innings.
