The Japanese went out in his match against Jean Paul de Bruijn with a run of five and won the deciding set 15-6. The Spaniard, who played in the semifinals in Sluisksil last year, defeated his Turkish opponent Lütfi cenet with a better finish.
Jae Ho Cho will meet Javier Palazón in the quarterfinals, Ryuuji Umeda and Marco Zanetti, two former world champions, meet each other when the night has fallen over Lima.
The upper part of the schedule has his four winners, four other players in the other part of the ranking are playing for the other places. Dick Jaspers against Jung Han Heo, Torbjörn Blomdahl against Frédéric Caudron, Jérémy Bury against Eddy Leppens and Dani Sánchez against Martin Horn.
Javier Palazón almost wasted his match against Lütfi Cenet. The Spaniard seemed to lose control at the end. He had a 2-0 lead (15-13, 15-11), but then lost two sets in a phase that Cenet picked himself up again (15-13, 15-10). The Spaniard however showed his resilience in the deciding set, which he won 15-5 (1.545/1.372).
Ryuuji Umeda also gave his opponent Jean Paul de Bruijn chances to come back in the match. The Japanase led two times in sets, the Dutchman then seemed to open the door to victory (15-14, 6-15, 15-1, 2-15). He had a quick start in the fifth set (5-1), but the Japanese had a winning sprint. He proved to be slightly more effective in the rush to the finish and ended up with five (15-6 in seven innings).
