SEOUL - The attractive LG U+ Masters Invitational tournament in Seoul, Korea, with five European star players and eleven Asian top players, kicks off with the preliminary rounds this Tuesday (Korean time 12.30, Monday night, CET 4.30). Four groups of four battle it out for four places in the semi-finals. The group winners qualify for the knockout phase. The prize money is extremely high: 80.000 euros total, 40.000 euros for the winner.
Two of the best Europeans, Torbjörn Blomdahl and Dani Sánchez, face each other in the same group and play for a spot in the semis. Sung-Won Choi meets among others Frédéric Caudron in his flight. Dick Jaspers plays in the group with Semih Sayginer and Jae Ho Cho with two other strong Koreans, Hyung Bum Hwang and Dong Koong Kang.
The sixteen players start in the qualifiers on Tuesday, 10 November and Wednesday, 11th, in four groups of four. The group winners advance to the semi-finals. The preliminaries are played to 35 caroms with an equalizing inning. In the semi-finals the distance is 40 with an equalizing inning and shootouts.
From the European front, Eddy Merckx and Marco Zanetti are the most notable absentees. The Asian champion Kim HaengJik is still missing because of his military service.
The tournament will be broadcast live by Kozoom from start to finish.
The opening ceremony is on Tuesday at 12.10.

The total prize money is 110 million South Korean won
First prize: 50 million KRW (38.000 euro)
Second prize: 10 million
Third prize: 5 million
