Lütfi Cenet lost two sets 15-14 and is out of the game in Matosinhos.

The last day of qualification was not the day of Lütfi Cenet and certainly not for Kouji Funaki, the Japanese who defeated Dick Jaspers in Hurghada last year after trailing 2-0 and swept him out of the tournament. The Turk Cenet can go home after a 2-0 defeat (twice 15-14) against the relatively unknown Manuel Gonzalez Castrillo. Funaki may pack his suitcases after a loss against Vagelis Moulos: 2-0 and a bad average. The Japanese plays in his second match against Jean Paul de Bruijn only for the statistics.

The last qualification day showed a strongly Eddy Leppens so far (2.500 against Switala), Jae Guen Kim with the same high averagesame, a well balanced and as always technically brilliant Jung Han Heo (2.307), a surprising Faraco Jaime Sanchez, who beat Adnan Yüksel 2-1 with 1.950 and a solid debut in the tournament of Ly the Vinh and Jean Paul de Bruijn.

Lütfi Cenet looked very disappointed when he was sitting in the tribune after his lost match. ,,I lost twice with one point, unbelievable, but I'm out of the tournament,'' the Turkish coming-man mourned. He complained a bit that he couldn't feel the table against the Spaniard with the illustrious name Manuel Gonzalez Castrillo, but he didn't score at the right moments, as he's used to. Cenet is still playing against Andreas Efler, who previously won 2-1 against Gonzalez. Cenet can pass the Austrian if he wins 2-0, but not the Spaniard, who's three sets in the plus.
