Two Colombians in New York final: JJ the winner

NEW YORK - The famous Carom Cafe in New York is the center every year where many great players from the world of three cushion show up. It has been two years since the last event was won by Belgian Eddy Merckx. The matches in the impressive hall of Michael Kang were postponed due to Corona. This year, the tournaments are gradually returning and the event was also held at the Carom Cafe, albeit without the European stars.

Pan American champions José Juan García and Huberney Cataño played the final of the tournament that was named Predator CRM Open USBA 3-Cushion. The last game of the tournament was dominated by Jose Juan Garcia, who won over Cataño 40-21 in 23 innings. JJ, as he is called in his homeland, had some luck leading up to the final. There, he defeated Javier Terán 40-39 in 21.

In the quarter finals, the best game was played by Javier Terán, who beat Vicky Pineda 40-26 in 21 innings. The Colombian duel between Huberney Cataño and Hugo Patiño ended in 40-28 in 20 innings. Korean Kang Lee, manager of Carom Café, eliminated Luis Aveiga with a one point margin, 40-39 in 31.

Other well-known Latino players did not survive the final rounds. Harry Peña defeated Javier Vera in the round of 16: 40-39 in 31 and Cataño defeated Miguel Almaraz 40-37 in 38. The best run came from Young Ha Choi with 10.
