TOKYO - In the Kobayashi Billiards Club in Tokyo was played for the Japan Cup after a three-year stop due to COVID. Takao Miyashita came out as the winner of the tournament in a final against Satoru Yoneyama. The tournament was played with preliminary rounds and 48 players in the main tournament in a knock-out system. Former winner Dani Sánchez finished 9th.
Two internationally renowned players, Ryuuji Umeda and Kouji Funaki were eliminated in the semi-finals. Dani Sánchez lost to Takashima O in a match over 30 caroms. Spanish four-time world champion Dani Sánchez was one of the few foreign players. The Koreans were missing due to playing other tournaments.
The Japanese players, with Kobayashi, Komori and Umeda as big names from the past, rarely play in World Cups anymore. No Japanese players are entered for the World Cup in Veghel. The best Japanese at the last World championship was Takeshima O in 31st place.
