Sung Won Choi took his first PBA victory after his career in UMB with a world title

SEOUL - Top new Korean player on the PBA tour, Sung Won Choi, has scored his first victory in his first season for the PBA. In the Huons PBA final, Choi triumphed in the final against Javier Palazón, the Spaniard who became number one in the PBA rankings after his victory on 29 July this year. Choi defeated Palazón 4-1 in the final. In the decisive set, Korea's star player went out 15-1 in three innings. Choi also won 15-1 in the first of five sets. The averages were for Sung Won Choi 2.760, for Palazón 1.417.Spanish billiard players again played a leading role in this tour. David Martinez, winner of the previous tournament, was defeated in the semi-finals by Javier Palazón 4-2 (2,194/1,771), while Sung Won Choi won against Sang-young Lee 4-2. The later tournament winner Choi defeated Kwang yeol Park 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Palazón eliminated Vietnamese Minh Cam Ma in those quarter-finals. Sang-young Lee, the later semi-finalist, won against David Zapata in the quarter-finals 3-1.

Sung Won Choi was playing his fifth PBA tournament, having come over from UMB, the world federation, this year. There, the Korean won the 2014 World championship at home in the final against Torbjörn Blomdahl 40-37. Choi also won a World Cup in Antalya in 2012. He showed overjoyed with his PBA victory, which was bringing him the 70,000 euros top prize.

In the round with the best 8 were three more Spaniards (Palazón, Martinez and Zapata) with one Vietnamese (Ma) and the four Koreans remaining. Among the best 16, Yusuke Mori (by Martinez 3-0), Semih Sayginer (by Eom 3-1) and Duc Anh Chien (by Palazon 3-2) were played out of the tournament.Of the well-known players in the PBA tour, Dani Sánchez was beaten by Martinez at the best 32 by 3-1, Adnan Yüksel went out in that round against Seung-yong Kang 3-2, Ivan Mayor lost to Sang-young Lee 3-1.

Among the best 64, Turks Murat Naci Coklu, Savas Bulut and Koreans Dong Koong Kang and Jae ho Cho lost.
