ANSAN - Cambodian Sruong Pheavy crowned herself queen of the PBA Tour for the sixth time. She defeated Korean Hyun-ji Jong 5-4 in a superb battle that went up and down in the score throughout the match. In the man finals are four non-Koreans in the semi-finals of the Silkroad Ansan tournament.
Sruong Pheavy didn’t manage to control Korean Hyun-ji Yong, who has never won a PBA tournament, in the match that captivated until the last set. Yong won the first set 11-6, Pheavy won the next two sets 11-3 and 11-4, Yong levelled the score 11-5 before Pheavy took another lead 11-7: 3-2. Yet the Korean came back strongly again 11-7, so a 7th set was needed to decide the winner. In that, Pheavy left no doubt: she won in two innings 9-2 (sets 5 and 4).
In the semi-final, Sruong Pheavy defeated another multiple winner, Jung-suk Lim 3-0. Hyun-ji Yong beat Ji-eun Kang 3-1.
Two Turks, a Belgian and a Vietnamese qualified for the men's semi-finals. Belgian Frédéric Caudron will play Vietnamese Minh Cam Ma, while Turks Birol Uymaz and Lütfi Cenet will play for the other place in the final. Frédéric Caudron won 3-2 over Ji-hoon Sun today, Sunday, while Minh Cam Ma won 3-1 over Hyun-min Seo.
The two Turks defeated two Korean opponents. Lütfi Cenet was superior against In-su Park 3-0, Birol Uymaz won 2-3 from Kwang-yeol Park. So all four Koreans in the quarter-finals were eliminated by international players.
Tomorrow morning, Monday, the semi-finals are at 5.00 am West European time, the final is at 3.00 pm.
