SABADELL - The Spanish player Raul Cuenca took the title in one cushion in his country this weekend. He succeeded to extend the title in Sabadell, last year he won in Elda. Therefor he fulfilled his role as the main favourite.
The title run was not always easy, because the competition was strong. Cuenca had to prove his high class in the decisive part. In the preliminaries he won his matches with 7.89 average, then, in the quarterfinals he defeated Cesar Martinicorena 125-47 in 14 innings. In the semi-finals Jordi Garriga, two-time Spanish champion, was his opponent. Garriga still was leading 115-92. At the end Cuenca responded with a final rush and bested Garriga 125-118 in 11 innings.
In the final against Joan Espinasa, Cuenca's opponent was the best starter with 72-11 in five innings. Five innings later and after a run of 63, Cuenca was crowned champion.
