The first starts in the Dutch premier three-cushion league for teams does not yet bring the world's top players into action. Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx and Martin Horn, to name a few, will not be at the tables on this Sunday for the second round of play. The highest-ranked players in the rankings are Nikos Polychronopoulos (16th), Berkay Karakurt (20th) and Peter Ceulemans (33rd). The Dutch champion, SIS Schoonmaak, is not fielding the two top players, as Dick Jaspers is unlikely to play in the competition at all and Eddy Merckx is in any case playing fewer matches than before. The rotation of players, especially with the top players, increases the tension, because many of the teams are going to compete with equal chances in this first part of the Kozoom league. That can be seen especially in the line-up of the leading players including Steven van Acker, Kay de Zwart. Thorsten Frings, Ronny Brants, but also international players such as Nikos Polychronopoulos, Berkay Karakurt, Eddy Leppens, Birol Uymaz and from the Dutch part Jeffrey Jorissen, Jean van Erp, Dave Christiani and Glenn Hofman.

The second round of play is notable because PBA players have returned to Europe for some weeks and are allowed to play in the Kozoom league. Therefore Birol Uymaz and Eddy Leppens are the temporary leaders of DKM Tools and Burgmans Biljarts. From the other players, Jean Paul de Bruijn and Jeffrey Jorissen on positions 40 and 55 are the top Dutchmen in the UMB rankings who will be in action on Sunday. Roland Forthomme (23rd) is the best ranked Belgian after Eddy Merckx, but is only active for the STZ Zundert team for five matches due to his transfer to another team.

The first five rounds are often decisive for the formation of a first leading group. SIS Schoonmaak, Bousema and STZ Zundert emerged as first winners last week and will no doubt want to keep that unbeaten status. SIS Schoonmaak faces the away match against DKM Tools in Oosterhout on Sunday, Zundert travels to Team Nachtwacht, Bousema plays the home match against Team Eekhoorn. A nice poster is the Sprundel derby between Aartsbouw and Dekker with four Dutchmen and four Belgians in the arena of Drie Zwaantjes.
