SCHILTIGHEIM - The feeling was twofold: the victory against Sung-Won Choi in his last performance for the third place, with a highest run of seventeen and a finish with 32 points in three innings (,,the best I've ever done'') made him happy, the memory of last night (a loss in the semifinal against Kyung-Roul Kim, who made a final run of twelve) filled him with a certain disappointment in his mind.
,,I really felt that I could have won the tournament,'' he said after the 50-26 against Choi in the match for the third place. ,,I know Torbjörn very well, he is my friend, I know how he plays and for sure, I think I could have beat him.''
That illusion has been vanished. Martin Horn leaves the Agipi Masters 2012 with a beautiful place on the podium, provisionally with the best average of all players, the preliminaries included. The German played 2.157 overall, Dick Jaspers 2.030, Kyung-Roul Kim 2.014 and Torbjörn Blomdahl 2.000.
,,It is unbelievable, actually, that I'm better with my average than Dick Jaspers. That never happens, not in the last ten World Cups, I think, not in the Agipi Masters. Dick has always the best average of all players. This made me very happy, because I'm leaving here with the feeling that I can be among the best players in the world.''
The final stage of the Masters, he missed yesterday evening: ,,I still thought about the whole evening, I missed a bankshot by a whisker, then he made twelve, a great run in that phase of the match. But I was leading 43-38, if I would have made the bankshot, I was on 44. And I had a big chance to win. Now it turned the other way.''
The Korean went to the table and finished with a wonderful twelve. He plays tonight (20.30) against Torbjörn Blomdahl for the main trophy. Martin Horn can be more than satisfied with the bronze medal. ,, I was just so close to victory...''
