SEOUL - Ga-young Kim is the star player of the women's PBA tour again this year. She won the Huons championship in the final against Sang-a Kim 4-1 and is the leader of the LPBA's money standings after that win. For Ga-young Kim, it was her 6th win in an LPBA event, the 9th time she was in a final.
The other finalist, Sang-a Kim, played her first final and showed overjoyed at this success. She beat Min-ju Baek 3-1 in the semi-finals. Ga-young Kim won over another LPBA great, Jug-suk Kim 3-1.
The Huons event showed almost total Korean domination. In the 32 players round, 31 players were Korean. Only Japan's Ayako Sako was a foreign player in that round, in which she lost to Sang-a Kim, the later finalist, 2-1. Orie Hida, Namiko Hayashi and Natsumi Higashiuchi disappeared from the tournament in the round with the best 64. Cambodian Sruong Pheavy was eliminated in the first round.
In the overall money standings, Ga-young Kim leads with 266 million Korean won, some 200,000 euros. Second in the season standings is Min-a Kim ahead of Min-joo Baek, Ayako Sakai and Sruong Pheavy.
In the men's event, the Huons event started on Tuesday. In the first round, winners included Javier Palazón, David Zapata, Jae Ho Cho, David Martinez, Birol Uymaz Semih Sayginer and Dani Sánchez with penalties. Turks Murat Naci Coklu, Savas Bulut and Lütfi Cenet were eliminated in that first round the same as Eddy Leppens.
