The level stepped up noticeably on Tuesday at the Ankara World Cup as the Pre-Pre Qualification (PPQ) round produced stronger averages, shorter matches and several standout performances from players hoping to reach the final qualification stages.
After surviving Monday's PPPQ round, many players were back in action, but only sixteen group winners advanced. Among them, two names stood above the rest: Greece's Kostantinos Kokkoris and Dutchman Volkan Cetin.
Kokkoris delivers the performance of the day
Kostantinos Kokkoris produced the highest general average of the tournament so far, dominating Group G with an outstanding 1.764 average.
The Greek player defeated Vietnam's Pham Quoc Thuan 30-15 in 17 innings before repeating exactly the same score against Sweden's David Pennor, once again in only 17 innings. His final tally of 60 points in 34 innings made him the most impressive performer of the day.
With high runs of 9 and 8, Kokkoris controlled both matches from start to finish and confirmed his status as one of the strongest contenders emerging from the qualification rounds.
Cetin combines consistency and firepower
Another player attracting attention was Volkan Cetin, who continued the excellent form he had already shown in the PPPQ stage.
The Dutchman won Group J undefeated with a 1.666 general average, defeating Turkey's Ataberk Cerkez and South Korea's Jeong Ye Sung.
His highlight came in the decisive match against Jeong, where he reached 30 points in only 13 innings for a remarkable 2.307 match average, the highest single-match performance of the day.
Korean players keep advancing
South Korea continued its strong presence in Ankara with four players topping their groups.
Min Suk Kim, the best performer of Monday's PPPQ round, remained unbeaten and won Group P with a 1.333 average.
Kim Ha Eun, Kwon Miru and Yang Seungmo also secured qualification, giving the Korean delegation another highly successful day.
Turkish hopes remain alive
The home nation kept several players in contention as the qualification campaign moved forward.
Hayri Altuntaslar, Serkan Kahraman, Vedat Yilmaz and Denizcan Akkoca all won their groups, while Muhammed Cavusoglu narrowly missed qualification despite posting a strong 1.180 average in Group L.
