DEN HAAG – They were facing two well known opponents, Glenn Hofman and Jeffrey Jorissen in the catch up round for the Dutch league this Sunday afternoon. The Hague tandem prepared for two tough matches, but in the end was ruthless for Jef Philipoom and Ruben Legazpi. J&F Auto's/New Jorissen won the home match against Cues&Darts 5-3, the way they did it was impressive. Glenn Hofman played 3.333 on average, Jeffrey Jorissen 2.352.
It must have happened rarely to Jef Philipoom that he was so hopelessly played off the table by an opponent. Glenn Hofman started modestly with 2, 3 and 0, but then attacked with 11 and 5, made 3 and 4 some innings later and finished with 6, 1 and 4 for a 40-9 (!!!) victory in 12 innings. The leading player in the Hague team, Jeffrey Jorissen, needed a slightly longer run-up against Ruben Legazpi, but then overpowered the Spaniard 40-18 in 17 innings.
The final 5-3 win was also thanks to Therese Klompenhouwer, who played a draw against Huub Wilkowski (40-40 in 35) and secured the match point needed for The Hague's victory over Cues&Darts. The Tilburg team won one game (Wesley de Jaeger beat Herman van Daalen 40-26 in 27), but lost important points in the battle for the top three positions.
The Hague équipe, far too low in the rankings (8th place, shared with Bousema, Dallinga and Team Eekhoorn) showed how incredibly strong it can be against the shared number two in the standings. Glenn Hofman also played a strong final day in the Grand Prix of Capelle a/d IJssel on Saturday, Jeffrey Jorissen reached the final there, which he finally lost to a strong Dave Christiani.
Stichting Topbiljart Zundert also had started its climb to the top half of the rankings after a mediocre season start, but after a nice start, later made a half-miss against Burgmans Biljarts (4-4).
Sam van Etten and Thorsten Frings laid the foundation for the day's victory with wins over Johan Roijers (40-38 in 34) and Marco Janssen (40-30 in 33), but Roland Forthomme and Francis Forton failed to finish it off. By the way, Anno de Kleine played a magnificent match against an also strongly playing Forthomme, winning 40-37 in 15 innings. Bart Ceulemans defeated his compatriot Forton 40-36 in 33 on behalf of Burgmans Biljarts.
Today's two matches were for the 14th round, for which one more match remains to be played. SIS Schoonmaak still plays against Woonwonder on Saturday 4 March.
