KAPELLE - Raimond Burgman bumped with a last effort, under great tension in the stands, the local celebrity Jean Paul de Bruijn from the tournament. Glenn Hoffman, no stranger in Zeeland as well, threw up his cue after his victory against Harry van de Ven not long after the win of Burgman.
That means Raimond Burgman and Glenn Hofman meet in the semifinals (19.30) and Dick Jaspers will play against Jean van Erp.
The run up to the semi final was very exciting. Hofman had the initiative almost the entire match against Van de Ven, thanks to runs of nine and seven, but he admitted his opponent to come back in both sets.
In the last set, Hofman had the best end shot, although he had given his opponent some opportunities to knock down the former junior European champion.
At the other table Jean Paul de Bruijn couldn't come to his highest level. That eventually costed him the match against Raimond Burgman.
De Bruijn tried to explain his defeat: ,,I didn't play that bad, but the positions were not so favorable, so I couldn't make high runs. May be my highest was only four.'' The most important moment at the end of the match was, when Burgman led 2-1 in the fourth set and 10-0 in caroms, De Bruijn's opponent only made one point in eight innings. But trying to close the gap, De Bruijn had a mis cue.
Two innings later Burgman finished the match.
The averages in the quarter finals:
Burgman 1.255, De Bruijn 1.119, Hofman 1.172, Van de Ven 0.929.
