RANDERS - The final four groups of the prerounds at the World championship three cushion in Randers determine the overall ranking for the knock-out stages. For the qualification, the last session is only important in two of the four groups. Korean player Jung-Han Heo in Group M and Swede Michael Nilsson in Group P still have a little chance to reach the last 32, but are dependent on average. Today, at 11.00, four last group matches will be played.
The Mexican in his fifties, Javier Vera, with 2 match points and 2,222 on average, is in a good position to become the frontrunner in Group M. He will face this morning Jung-Han Heo (0 points, 1,304). Lütfi Cenet has finished the group with 2 match points and 1,682. Torbjörn Blomdahl and Roland Forthomme have secured for the knock-outs and meet each other for the two top positions. Myung-Woo Cho and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen also meet for the group win. Dani Sánchez and Sung-Won Choi is the fourth match: only if Choi (1 match point 1.739) loses, Michael Nilsson (1 match point, 1, 581 and finished) has a chance on average.
Eddy Merckx is topping the standings of the twelve group winners so far with 4 match points and 2,500 on average, followed by Tayfun Tasdemir (4, 2,424), Dick Jaspers (4, 2,352) and Wan Young Choi (4, 2,000). Merckx also achieved the highest run (18) ahead of Nikos Polychronopoulos (15) and two players who are out, Barry van Beers (Netherlands) and Jan Ales (Czech) with 14.
Three players who play at 11.00 have good chances to reach the top of the preround standings: Javier Vera with 2,222 on average, Myung-Woo Cho and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen with 2,105 and Dani Sánchez with 2,000.
