SEOUL - The four seeded players for the Kimchi tournament, Frédéric Caudron, Marco Zanetti, Eddy Merckx and Dani Sánchez were the unbeaten winners of the group matches. They meet in the quarterfinals the numbers of the four groups: Tae Soo Lim, Haeng Jik Kim, Ruben Legazpi and Kyung-Roul Kim.

The most attractive poster is without doubt the encounter between Frédéric Caudron and Kyung-Roul Kim. The Korean achieved the highest average in the preliminaries, but was defeated by Dani Sánchez in the battle for first place in the group: the Spaniard won 30-13 in 14 innings.

The Korean Tae Soo Lim advanced to the quarters in Group A ahead of the Spaniard Jose Maria Mas. Haeng Jik Kim was second in Group B with a slightly better average than Marco Zanetti. Dutch lady Therese Klompenhouwer was eliminated in the group averaging 1.057 and after an excellent final match against Marco Zanetti: 30-23 in 15 innings.

In Group C, Eddy Merckx was the winner with the maximum eight match points. The Belgian world champion defeated Ruben Legazpi in the mutual duel 30-19 in 21 innings.

Dani Sánchez was the winner from the preliminaries in Group D, where he convincingly left Kyung-Roul Kim behind.
