ATHENS - The European champion Filippos Kasidokostas has won the first open Acropolis tournament. In the final of the event in Athens, organized by the Trispondo Billiards Club, Kasidokostas defeated 28-year-old Kostas Antonatos 50-31 in 26 innings.
The showdown followed the phase in which players from both sides of the pyramid were chasing the finals. Filippos Kasidokostas came from the losers pyramid, after his loss against Kostas Papakonstantinou (40-18 in 18).
It was his only misstep in a masterful tournament, including a great match against Spaniard Jose Maria Mas, who he defeated 40-15 in 12 innings, the best match of the tournament.
Nikos Polychronopoulos, who lost in the first round against Murat Tüzül, was outplayed in a later phase, like other contenders such as Tüzül, Papakonstantinou, Mas and Alp.
Filippos Kasidokostas earned his final place in the semis against Birol Uylmaz (40-37 in 24). The young Kostas Antonatos from Athens, one of the promising players in Greek three-cushion, won in the semi-finals against Papakonstantinou (40-39 in 33).
Then, playing for the trophee, Kasidokostas won the final. The only Greek in the world's top ten, ended with a tournament average of 2,081.
Murat Tüzül made the highest run with fifteen.
