SITTARD - The Dutch women's three cushion title, which has been won by Therese Klompenhouwer for 15 years on a row, is at stake again this weekend. The world champion will enter the arena of De Biljartacademie in Sittard after a day of preliminary rounds for a battle with a final field of 16 ladies.
The Limburg billiards stronghold, which has been very active in organizing in these years, had a warm-up on Friday in which the first shuffle was made with 16 ladies. Of these, nine players remained, who will now compete with the seven seeded players.
The 16 are divided into four flights of four with the best eight going into the knock-out rounds. Tomorrow, Sunday, are the finals.
The pre-rounds didn't yet give the impression that one of them is a serious competitor for Therese Klompenhouwer. All averages were below 0.500 and of the 24 matches to 20 points, with a maximum of 40 innings, 15 did not come to the end. Zeeland's Sylvia van Eckel was the best with 5 match points and 0.471 ahead of Cynthia van Peer with 4 match points and 0.471. The highest run was also for Van Peer with 6.
