ALCAMO - The Green Planet Gold team from Porcia, with Dani Sánchez, Marco Zanetti, Tonny Carlsen and Fabio Gaiotti, was victorious at the Italian team championship. The tournament was played in Alcomo, Sicily in the Cittadella dei Giovanni. Green Planet Gold A was the better of the defending champion Billiard's Café with Frédéric Caudron and Eddy Leppens. The final was won by Green Planet Gold A 5-3.
Dani Sánchez was the star player on the final day. The Spanish, four-time world champion won the match against Frédéric Caudron in the final 40-36 in 13 innings (3.077/2.679). After three innings, Sánchez led 12-0. Caudron made a great run of 21 in that inning, but finally ran into a strong Sánchez. Marco Zanetti defeated Eddy Leppens 40-22 in 24, Tonny Carlsen played equal against Emilio Sciacca (40-40 in 33) and the match between Francesco Orlando and Fabio Garotti was stopped at 36-24 in 46 innings. Dani Sánchez also made an excellent impression in the semi-final against Carom Catania with a win in 16 innings.
Sixteen teams from many parts of Italy played in four groups of four in the championship.
