Dani Sánchez, who considers FC Porto as his second home for many years, had a stunning start in his third match against Thomas Andersen, in which he led 18-8 after 5 innings and ran out with a run of 13 in the sixth to 31-8. He finished with an amazing bank shot for 40-12 in 11 innings. That brought Sánchez to 3.076 (!) overall over three matches. For the FC Porto team, Dick Jaspers against Eddy Leppens (29-21 in 12) and Joao Ferreira against Allan Schröder (26-13 in 19) were well on track at that time to pave the way for the home team to a place among the best four.

Frédéric Caudron also was doing very well with matches in 20 and 19 innings, but started remarkably poor in his third performance against Spaniard Jose Antonio Carrasco, who even had a 17-13 lead after 22 innings. In 26 innings the score pointed 26-25. Two innings later, Caudron suddenly found his rhythm and played out with 10 and 4.

FC Porto won the last match against BK Varde 6-2 with a win for Dick Jaspers against Leppens 40-24 in 15 and Joao Ferreira against Schröder 40-33 in 29 innings. Tasdemir and Salman, the strong fourth man, were the big winners for the Turks with three victories. BK Grøndal defeated SIS in that group 8-0, lost against Tekstil 6-2 and played a draw against Morangis in the last match. Jacob Haack Sörensen showed up in an excellent match against Raimond Burgman: 40-14 in 15 turns.

SIS Schoonmaak, the finalist last year, missed the best four due to the weak start (8-0 loss) and only played a draw against Morangis. Both the leader player, Glenn Hofman, and Jean van Erp, the team's best man in the preliminaries, lost their three matches. The final ranking in Group A:
