RIJSBERGEN – The main players in the Dutch league, playing for eight of the best teams, meet this week in Rijsbergen for the cup final. The teams have qualified after a long stretch of preliminaries throughout the country. The participants, with AEJ Dallinga as the reigning title holder, meet from 21 to 24 May in De Koutershof in Rijsbergen, where Topbiljart Zundert is hosting the tournament together KNBB Sectie Driebanden.
Many famous players like Dick Jaspers, Eddy Merckx, Frédéric Caudron, Eddy Leppens, Glenn Hoffman, Dave Christiani and others from the league will compete in this new location in Brabant. Hans Snellen from the organization: ,,We have a great field in the cup final, amongst others with three of the world’s top guns in one team.’’
The Zeeland team AEJ / Dallinga is the big favourite to prolong the title. The main competitors are MCR/De Uitspanning (including Eddy Leppens and Dave Christiani), Pressplate Machielsen (Roland Forthomme, Peter Ceulemans, Barry van Beers), Biljartcafé Jorissen (Glenn Hoffman, Jean van Erp and Jeffrey Jorissen) and De Distel Biljarts (Jef Philipoom, Gerwin Valentine, John Tijssens).
Prior to the cup final, on Wednesday, May 20th, there is a try-out with new game rules. The setup is a small tournament with a group of four players in a half competition with a limited duration and a group with four in half a competition based on ’best of seven’ to sets of nine caroms.
The try-out starts Wednesday at 13.00. The group formats are:
Group A: Eddy Merckx, Frédéric Caudron, Glenn Hofman, Jean van Erp.
Group B: Dick Jaspers, Roland Forthomme, Jean Paul de Bruijn, Barry van Beers.
The cup final starts on Thursday at 14.00 after the opening ceremony at 13.30 with the matches Dallinga/AEJ against Ripa Recycling/Pearle and Pressplate Machielsen.fa against Van Wanrooy Transport.
Then, Biljartcafé Jorissen and De Distel Biljarts face each other at 19.00 together with MCR/De Uitspanning-HCR Prinsen.
