RUMPT – The final teams in the Dutch Cup final are two well known Brabant teams from the first Dutch league. Eekhoorn from Oosterhout meets Cues&Darts from Tilburg this Saturday for the Dutch cup win. The two winning teams from the semi-finals had the upper hand over the teams of Paperclip and Van Baal, both of whom were defeated 6-2. Dick Jaspers was the only winner for Paperclip against Pierre Soumagne, Roland Forthomme defeated Nick Polychronopoulos.
The most tension was seen in the match between Team Eekhoorn and Van Baal, where Sam van Etten came close to a Scotch Double for the Zundert team in his match against Eddy Leppens. However, both sets went to Leppens with a 15-14 score. Eekhoorn's 4-0 lead before the break was extended by Leppens to 6-2, securing a place in the final. Cues&Darts secured the match victory after the break thanks to Jef Philipoom's win over Anno de Kleine.
Twice, a 4-0 lead was on the board at the break between the two semi final matches. Cues&Darts achieved that in the first match against Paperclip thanks to wins by Joey de Kok against Peter van Lieshout (2-0, 1.304/0.681) and Huub Wilkowski against Dan Breur (2-1, 0.836/0.775). Dick Jaspers then showed his supremacy against Pierre Soumagne in a 2-0 victory, 2.727/1.600. That did not help Paperclip escape, as Jef Philipoom pulled the match over the finish line against Anno de Kleine with a 2-1 victory and 1.480/1.320.
Team Eekhoorn had that same margin in the match against Van Baal thanks to Jerry Hermans and Peter Ceulemans. The campsite owner defeated Francis Forton 2-0 and 1.250; European champion Peter Ceulemans was far too strong for Thorsten Frings: 2-0, 1.666/0.411.
The second set, in the fastest match, went to Roland Forthomme, who handed Nick Polychronopoulos his second loss in this cup final. The Belgian won 2-0, 2.142/1.692. That forced Eddy Leppens into a strong finish against Sam van Etten. Twice the North Holland player missed the set point, allowing the Belgian to strike with a double set win.
