At the Belgian championship the audience welcomed the first championship on the sound of the Brabanconne. Patrick Niessen, the winner of the free game, was flanked on the stage by Eddy Leppens and Philippe Deraes. Maarten Janssen and Andy Bond were fourth and fifth.
Niessen tried to attack the Belgian record, but ended with 228.57 after winning three matches of four hundred points in one inning and his last in four innings. Eddy Leppens ended with 127.28, Philippe Deraes with 57.92.
Patrick Niessen earlier in his career was four times champion of Belgium in the free game.
Frédéric Caudron climbed on the podium for the first time sd winner of the 47/1. With three victories and a tie he was supreme in this discipline. The general average of 34.78 was below his record last year, but still a respectable average.
Patrick Niessen was the second with one match point less and an average of 28.63. Eddy Leppens was third in the ranking.
