MALLE - The famous billiard factory of Verhoeven in Malle has been visited by burglars last night. Hundreds of billiard cues, mostly Paramount and Longoni (500 to 600) and billiard balls were taken and transported in a new pickup truck that was also stolen. The damage to the showroom, the office and the warehouse is huge. The money safe was ripped from the wall and ransacked.
The burglary happened in the night. Luc Verhoeven, who owns the famous billiard business with his brother Mark, discovered on Thursday morning that the front door had been forced and thieves had entered the premises. Billiards company Verhoeven has been based in Malle for forty years and has a great reputation.
Luc Verhoeven: ,,What they didn't take away, were the billiard tables, weighing 750 kilograms each.'' The police started a full investigation.
The Belgian billiard factory is the main sponsor of the annual Verhoeven Open in New York, the former Sang Lee tournament with many world class players.
